US warns China against helping Russia

Washington, March 13 (UNI/Sputnik) Washington has directly communicated to Beijing that it would take measures if China helps Russia bypass Western sanctions, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Sunday. According to him, the US believes that China was aware in advance of what Washington describes as “invasion” of Ukraine.

“We also are watching closely to see the extent to which China actually does provide any form of support, material support or economic support to Russia is a concern of ours. And we have communicated to Beijing that we will not stand by and allow any country to compensate Russia for its losses,” he told CNN.

He further stated that American servicemen are not participating in hostilities in Ukraine and will not be sent to the country. Commenting on a strike on Ukrainian training base near Lviv, US Defense Department spokesperson John Kirby told the ABC broadcaster that American troops left the site in Lviv several weeks ago.

“There were no American service members, no Americans at all working at that training facility. We had left, as you know, several weeks ago,” Kirby said.

He also noted that the Pentagon was aware of the damage to the base and in contact with the Ukrainian authorities to learn details of the incident. The Security Advisor, meanwhile, emphasised that the US has tools at its disposal to further support Ukrainian troops in their fight against the Russian forces.

“We believe that we have methods and systems in place to be able to continue to support the Ukrainians as they fight very bravely, very effectively against the attacking Russian forces,” he told CNN.
