Srinagar: Weatherman on Tuesday forecast widespread moderate rains and snow in the state in next two days while traffic on highway plied from Srinagar to Jammu on Tuesday.
Amid forecast for more rains and snow tomorrow and day after it, night temperatures increased across the Kashmir Valley.
A meteorological department official told GNS that Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 0. 4 degrees Celsius last insight against 1 degrees Celsius normal for this time of the season. He said the Srinagar also recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall in last 24 hours till 0830 hours.
The official said the mercury in Qazigund and Kokernag towns in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius and minus 0.1 degrees Celsius respectively. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir had 1.2mm while Kokernag had 0.7mm of rain.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 0.8 degrees Celsius and it had rainfall of 4.8 mm of rain and snow, he said.
Gulmarg, the famous ski resort in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius and rain or snowfall of 9.8mm while the famous health resort of Pahalgam registered a minimum of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius and had rain or snowfall of 1.2 mm. The weatherman has forecast more rains and snow on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link of Kashmir to the outside world, remained open for one-way traffic and vehicles are allowed to move from Srinagar to Jammu. (GNS)
