Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today refrained from commenting on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s remarks about statehood, saying he had not yet read the statement.
While addressing the UT Diwas celebrations in Srinagar — an event not attended by the J&K Chief Minister or any of his ministers — Lt Governor Sinha said that the elected government has full authority and should focus on governance rather than linking progress to the restoration of statehood.
While Omar didn’t react, NC president Farooq Abdullah dismissed Sinha’s comments outright, saying, “He is lying.”
Omar said that he would first like to see the words LG has used.
“Because if there is a difference in what he has stated and what you are saying, then if I say something which is wrong, it will not be good,” the chief minister told reporters in Srinagar.
“If he (LG) has said what the media personnel were saying, then we will respond to that at the right time,” he asserted.
Former CM Farooq Abdullah hit out at LG’s statement.
“He is lying. He never spoke the truth. Total control of IAS and IPS is under him. Not a single file he has passed back. He lies every day,” Abdullah told a private channel while responding to LG’s statement.
