Four unidentified assailants shot at and seriously wounded a woman and her son in village Bhago-Budha near Kabirpur on Wednesday.
The injured Geeta Rani (55), who is wife of Ex-Sarpanch Mangat Ram and her son Udik Chand (32) were rushed to Sultanpur Lodhi civil hospital first and later were sent to a private hospital in Jalandhar.
Police said that one of the assailants, who had come on a motorcycle, was caught by local people and was handed over to the police. He has been identified as Sagar. The other three accused managed to flee.
Sultanpur Lodhi DSP Babandeep Singh told this correspondent that the police have registered a case under section 307, 34, 120B and arms act of IPC against all the four assailants. Personal old enmity was said to be the cause of the attack, said DSP.
