Yogi meets girl, policeman injured in court shootout

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday visited the hospital to meet the girl and the constable, who were injured in the firing during the murder of notorious criminal Sanjeev Maheshwari alias Jeeva in the court premises in state capital Lucknow and directed the doctors to ensure proper treatment.

Yogi reached the Trauma Centre of King George’s Medical University Hospital and met the girl Lakshmi and the injured constable. He inquired about the health of the two injured from the doctors present there and gave instructions to provide better medical facilities.

Principal Secretary Home Sanjay Prasad and other senior officers were present on the occasion. Meanwhile, according to police sources, the murder accused Vijay Yadav has not revealed anything about his motive during questioning.

Though it was not confirmed by the police, sources said that according to the CCTV footage, Jeeva’s assailant Vijay Yadav alias Anand Yadav was accompanied by an accomplice.

It may be noted that a dreaded criminal of western Uttar Pradesh Jeeva was shot dead inside the district court in Lucknow on Wednesday. While two head constables, including Kamlesh and Lal Mohammad, were injured in the firing, a woman named Neelam and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Lakshmi were also wounded in the incident.

Taking a serious note of the incident, Yogi decided to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to carry out a probe. The three-member SIT comprises Additional Director General of Police (Technical) Mohit Agarwal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Lucknow Nilabja Chowdhary and IG Ayodhya Praveen Kumar. The SIT has been directed to complete its probe within a week.
