Continuing its efforts under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, J&K Police arrested 17 drug peddlers in multiple operations in Anantnag, Shopian, Budgam & Kulgam and recovered significant quantity of contraband substances from their possession.
In Anantnag, acting on specific information, a police team from Police Station Srigufwara conducted a raid at the residence of Naseer Ahmad of Shirhama and recovered 6.614 kgs of Charas. Efforts are underway to apprehend the accused person. In another incident, a police party from Police Station Larnoo, during routine naka checking at Bidhad Bridge, apprehended Ab Hameed Sheikh son of Gh Rasool Sheikh resident of Sheikh Mohalla Vailoo Devalgam. During search, 32 grams of Charas were recovered from his possession. Similarly, a naka established by PC Pahalgam at Wullarhama on the Bijbehara–Pahalgam road led to the apprehension of one suspicious biker identified as Danish Ahmad Kumar son of Gull Mohammad Kumar resident of Kralpora Kullar. During frisking, approximately 100 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession.
In another operation, a police party from Police Post Sangam, during naka checking at Panjpora, intercepted a vehicle (Wagon R) bearing registration number DL8CR 0936 and apprehended one person identified as Taseen Ramzan Bhat son of Mohd Ramzan Bhat resident of Batpora Marhama. During checking, 32 grams of charas (stick form) and 292 grams of charas powder were recovered from his possession. Moreover, one person namely Feroz Ahmad Mundu son of Habibullah Mundu resident of Nattipora Sangam, a daily wager employee in PDD Department, was apprehended at Halmulla. During search, approximately 270 grams of charas powder was recovered from his possession.
In Shopian, during routine naka checking at Ringward road, a police party from Police Station Keller apprehended a suspicious person. During the search, charas-like substance weighing approximately 120 grams was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Zakir Hussain Awan resident of Pehlipora Dunadoo Keller.
In Budgam, a police party of PS Magam during naka checking at Kandhama apprehended tow suspicious persons. Upon their personal search, a semi-grinded charas-like substance weighing approximately 1.120 kg was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Mudasir Ahmed Bhat, son of Khazir Mohammad Bhat & Feroz Ahmed Bhat, son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, both residents of village Bamruda.
In Kulgam, Police arrested 10 drug peddlers in separate operations across the district. During routine naka checking at Khudwani (PS Qaimoh) on NHW-44, an auto load carrier bearing registration No. JK18E-0744 driven by Fayaz Ahmad Dar S/O Mohd Shafi Dar R/O Bat Tachloo was intercepted. On search 5.16 grams of Heroin-like substance was recovered and the driver was arrested. During further investigation, acting on disclosure, another accused Asif Abbas Dar S/O Mohd Abbas Dar R/O Batengoo was apprehended near Khudwani Bypass (NHW-44). Upon his search, 1.40 grams of Heroin-like substance was recovered.
Similarly, at Levdoora during naka checking near the flyover, one suspicious person identified as Saqib Manzoor Itoo S/O Manzoor Ahmad Itoo R/O Wanpoh was apprehended. Upon personal search, 5.05 grams of Heroin-like substance was recovered. Moreover, a police party of PS Devsar during patrolling at General Road Arrigatnoo near a public park, one person identified as Adil Manzoor Ganie S/O Manzoor Ahmad Ganie R/O Kulgam was apprehended. Upon his search, approx. 120 grams of cannabis-like substance and 2 grams of brown sugar-like substance were recovered along with a mobile phone and driving license.
Meanwhile, a police party of PP Mirbazar during naka checking at NHW near Zadoora, intercepted an auto load carrier bearing registration No. JK18C-6457. During checking, charas powder-like substance concealed inside the driver’s seat weighing approx. 119 grams was recovered. The accused Junaid Salam Nengroo S/O Ab Salam Nengroo R/O Badroo Yaripora Kulgam was arrested. In another instance, during naka checking at Khudwani near SKAUST by a police party of PS Qaimoh, two suspicious persons attempted to flee the spot, who were late apprehended. Identified as Jasir Imtiyaz S/O Imtiyaz Hussain Ganie R/O Karigam, Qazigund and Basit Ahmad Kaloo S/O Javaid Ahmad Kaloo R/O Sopore, 20 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession. On disclosure, Amir Maqbool S/O Mohd Maqbool R/O Badderpora Qaimoh was arrested and 29.08 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered.
In yet another operation, a police team of PS Qazigund arrested a drug peddler identified as Ghulam Mohi Din Khan S/O Mohd Afzal Khan R/O Kalian, Devsar. 1KG 350 grams of Gnaja like substance has been recovered from his possession. Moreover, a police team of PP Jawahar Tunnel during naka checking at Sadiwara Dooru Road, one suspicious person who attempted to flee was apprehended. Identified as Arif Hussain Wani S/O Ab Rehman Wani R/O Nadoora, 1KG 700 grams of poppy straw was recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, a police team of PS Devsar destroyed poppy cultivation on vast area of land at Village Sopat belonging to Ab Rasheed Mir S/O Sanaullah Mir R/O Sopat.
All the accused have been arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations, and further investigation is underway to unearth the broader network involved.
J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicate the drug menace and urges the general public to cooperate by sharing any information related to drug peddling or illegal activities.(JKNS)
