5 hybrid militants arrested in Kashmir

Security forces arrested five “hybrid” militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba in two separate operations in Srinagar and Baramulla districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said here on Thursday.

They were identified as Naveed Shafi Wani and Faizan Rashid Teli, both residents of Pampore. They were arrested in Srinagar by a joint team of police and Army.

“On the basis of specific input about the movement of terrorists in the district, Srinagar Police laid special nakas. On one such special Naka, laid with 50 RR on Sanat Nagar Chowk-Rangreth road area during checking, one hybrid terrorist was apprehended along with one pistol and some rounds,” a police spokesman said.

“Upon his disclosure, a cordon and a search operation (CASO) was launched along with 50 RR in Pampore area, resulting in the arrest of one more hybrid terrorist, from whose position three more pistols and other arms and ammunition were recovered,” he added.

The duo were associated with Lashkar, police said.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested terror associates have been involved in transportation of terrorists, arms/explosive material and providing logistical support to the terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba in district Srinagar before as well,” the spokesman said.

In a separate operation, three hybrid militants were arrested on Thursday in Sopore area of Baramulla district, he added.

Police said a joint naka was established this evening by Police, Army’s 52 RR and CRPF at Takyabal Krankshivan, following a specific input regarding the movement of militants.

“During checking, a suspicious movement of three persons was observed and on seeing naka party, the suspected persons tried to flee from the spot but the security forces apprehended them tactfully. During search, two pistols, two magazines, 10 pistol rounds, a hand grenade and an AK 47 rifle were recovered from their possession,” a police spokesman said.

The three were identified as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie, Amir Shafqat Mir and Tahir Nisar Sheikh, all residents of Sopore.

“Preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals are hybrid terrorists of proscribed organisation LeT, who were planning to attack security forces and civilians,” added the spokesman.
