J&K Bharatiya Janata Party chief Ravinder Raina on Tuesday said that restoration of Statehood is not a political issue but a policy matter and any haste on this matter should be avoided.

He said that the government of Jammu and Kashmir and the central government should sit down and have a mutual discussion, and take a decision on the complicated issues including the restoration of Statehood.

“Jammu and Kashmir is a border state, a border union territory. In the last 35-40 years, Jammu and Kashmir has seen devastating scenes of terrorism. Even today, we see that as soon as the government was formed (in J&K), in Gagangir (Ganderbal), Bota Patri Gulmarg, how terrorist attacks were carried out. In Akhnoor, Jammu, how terrorists tried to spread terrorism there. Therefore, I request that the very sensitive issues, and decisions should not be taken in haste,” Raina told reporters in south Kashmir.

“The government of Jammu and Kashmir and the government of the center should sit down and have a mutual discussion, and take a decision on the complicated issues,” he added

The BJP chief said I think that even on statehood, the issues should not be resolved in a hurry or haste.

“Mutual love and mutual discussion should be carried out on such issues to get resolved,” he said.

The newly formed cabinet of J&K government in its first decision on October 16, passed a resolution seeking statehood. Omar later met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior union government ministers and took up the issue of restoration of Statehood.

In 2019, the BJP-led Centre revoked the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir and also carved two union territories from the erstwhile state.
