‘Aug 2 grenade blast aimed at reviving militancy in Ramban’

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked the August 2 grenade blast case and arrested two persons from Gool area in Ramban district. Those arrested once belonged to the Ghaznavi Force and received funds to revive militancy.

Police spokesman said that acting on inputs provided by police sources one suspect namely Shah Din Padyar from Gool was picked up and he confessed to hatching a criminal conspiracy for reviving militancy in Ramban area.

As per those plans he lobbed the explosive device on the Police Post Ind.

“After questioning, the suspect disclosed the identity of his accomplice namely Mohammad Farooq of Mahakund, Gool,” said the police, adding that they used to act as handlers of the Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force and were given funds for recruiting the youth to revive militancy in Ramban.

Both of them confessed that they received cash of Rs. 50,000 from one person whose identity is yet to be ascertained and were assigned the task of attacking security forces establishments.

Three SIM Cards were also recovered apart from Shah Din’s mobile phone with two SIM Cards.

The Electronic Surveillance Team (ESU) of District Ramban is working on technical inputs to further probe the matter.

On August 2, the explosion carried out at Police Post Ind amid high security ahead of Independence Day, left two police personnel Lal Singh and Shakeel Ahmed injured.

A massive joint operation to apprehend those responsible was immediately launched.

Investigation revealed that JKGF used to have presence only in Rajouri-Poonch districts.

SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma contacted SSP Rajouri who disclosed one Talib Hussain, a resident of Draj, Rajouri and associated with the Lashkar e Taiba outfit, arrested on July 4, had revealed during questioning that he visited Gool area in 2021 to give some money to a local resident.

More arrests are expected after identification of the person financing the militants.
