BJP spokesperson Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia on Friday questioned the silence of the ruling National Conference government over allegations made by senior BJP leader Ravinder Raina regarding an alleged “transfer raj” in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, Jasrotia said Raina had accused the present administration of “making money by merely shifting officers from one place to another” and asked why the National Conference leadership was not responding to the allegations in a transparent manner.
He alleged that repeated transfers of officers and employees had created uncertainty within the administration and raised serious concerns about governance in the Union Territory.
Jasrotia claimed that instead of focusing on public welfare and development, the government was engaged in large-scale reshuffling of officials. He further alleged that honest officers and bureaucrats were being pressured and victimised through arbitrary transfers, adversely affecting their morale.
“If there is no wrongdoing, the government should come clean before the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
The BJP spokesperson also criticised reported remarks regarding the use of a “transfer whip” on bureaucrats, terming them unfortunate and against the principles of transparent governance.
He alleged that the existing transfer system was promoting corruption and political patronage while key public issues such as unemployment, infrastructure, development and tourism were being neglected.
Jasrotia reiterated that the BJP would continue to raise its voice against any alleged misuse of the administrative machinery and stand with honest government employees and bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
