CM terms act uncalled for, BJP refuses to apology
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Thursday witnessed the boycott from all the opposition parties over the manhandling of MLA Langate Er Abdul Rashid by some BJP members for organizing beef party at MLA hostel in Srinagar.
All the opposition members stood from their seats and boycotted the proceedings over the ‘unruly’ act of BJP legislatures.
The main opposition leader of National Conference, Omar Abdullah while condemning an attack on independent MLA termed it as “Gunda Gardi”.
“They (BJP members) were aimed to kill him (Rashid),” Omar said.
Omar said that nobody has license to dictate the menu of any person. “Our religion doesn’t permit liquor and pork, but that doesn’t give me a license to stop members of this house who take liquor or pork.”
Few minutes before the house started its proceedings, the BJP members led by Ravindra Raina attacked Rashid for organising a beef party in MLA hostel last evening.
The embarrassing development also prompted Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Syed to condemn the incident in strong words and termed it “uncalled for”.
However, even though the Chief Minister urged his deputy and BJP Leader Nirmal Singh to apologize before the house on behalf of his accused legislatures, Singh tactfully refused to cut the sorry figure and condemned the attack.
Singh didn’t only condemn an undemocratic act of his legislatures, he also condemned the beef party organised by the legislature.
Singh when asked again by CM to explain his words, he reiterated “We condemn thrashing of Er Rashid. It is unfortunate.”
Following the directions of Jammu High Court to ban the consumption of beef in state last month, the decision had triggered the massive anger in the Muslim majority region terming it as religious interference.
The under duress PDP approached the Apex Court to challenge the High Court verdict which two days ago stayed the High Court order for two months.
