Jubilant scenes erupted in Jammu on Saturday as BJP’s Sat Sharma, who secured victory in the Rajya Sabha elections from Jammu and Kashmir, returned to the winter capital to a rousing welcome by party workers, supporters, and senior leaders.
BJP supporters gathered at the Jammu Airport, waving saffron flags, raising slogans, and showering flower petals as Sharma arrived.
Drums and dhols echoed through the crowd as jubilant workers danced in celebration of what they termed a “victory of Jammu’s spirit.”
Speaking to reporters amid the celebrations as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Sat Sharma expressed gratitude to the people and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the region.
“See the enthusiasm of the people — they are happy, and I am deeply touched by their love and trust,” Sharma said. “This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir. I will surely work for the people and ensure their voice is strongly represented in Parliament.”
The BJP, which managed to clinch one of the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, described the outcome as a reflection of the people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the party’s governance model.
BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa, who was among the leaders present to receive Sharma, congratulated the people of Jammu for their unwavering support.
“We give our heartfelt congratulations to the people of Jammu — this is your win,” Randhawa said. “When Jammu unites, victory naturally follows.”
Large victory processions later moved from the airport through Gandhi Nagar, with supporters chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi Hai Toh Mumkin Hai.”
Senior BJP functionaries added that Sharma’s election to the Rajya Sabha will ensure a “strong and articulate voice” for Jammu and Kashmir in the upper house of Parliament.
“Sat Sharma has always been known for his grassroots connect and clean image,” a senior party leader said. “His presence in Parliament will help push forward the development agenda and aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir.”
The Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir witnessed intense political activity, with alliances, strategies, and surprise cross-voting shaping the final outcome.
