The Jammu & Kashmir Casual Labourers’ United Front on Tuesday staged a protest at Lal Mandi in Srinagar, demanding the immediate regularisation of casual employees working across various departments in the Union Territory.
The protesting employees raised slogans and highlighted their long-pending demands, urging the government to take concrete and time-bound steps to resolve the issue.
Speaking to the media, representatives of the Front said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had assured phase-wise regularisation of employees and expressed hope that the commitment would be fulfilled at the earliest.
They warned that if their demands are not addressed soon, the agitation will be intensified.
It may be recalled that during the recent Budget Session, the Chief Minister assured phase-wise regularisation of employees in the Union Territory and said necessary steps would be taken at the earliest.
However, no specific timeline or details of the process were announced.
Meanwhile, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party sought clarity from the Chief Minister, stating that the announcement lacks a firm commitment in the absence of a clear time frame.(JKNS)
