The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has filed a chargesheet against two individuals accused of duping complainants of several lakhs of rupees in a land fraud case in Kangan, officials said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by a CBK spokesperson, the chargesheet has been submitted before the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Kangan against Abdul Hamid Dar, son of Abdul Ahad Dar, resident of Ariguripora Shadi Gund, Tehsil Kangan, and Abdul Qayoom Sheikh, son of Mohammad Sultan Sheikh, resident of Chak Akhal Guri Mohallah, Kangan. The case pertains to FIR No. 30/2023, registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC.

Providing the background of the case, the spokesperson said the investigation began after a written complaint alleged that the accused men had fraudulently sold 4 kanals and 16 marlas of land located at Kachnambal, near Baba Nagri Road, Kangan, for ₹27,00,000. The complainants further paid ₹96,000 for obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC), ₹52,000 for “Intikhab” (extract of land records), and ₹1,00,000 for legal documentation.

Despite receiving the full payment and handing over physical possession of the land, the accused allegedly refused to provide the revenue documents, prompting the complainants to approach Crime Branch Kashmir.

The investigation, conducted by the Economic Offences Wing, revealed that the duo had posed as land brokers and sold property that did not belong to them, thereby cheating the buyers and misappropriating the money.

Following a detailed probe and evidence corroboration, CBK filed the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial determination.

Reiterating its resolve to act strictly against fraudsters, Crime Branch Kashmir urged the public to exercise caution and verify credentials thoroughly before entering into any land or property-related transactions.(KINS)
