The Delhi Police has announced that the sale of NEERI-certified green firecrackers in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be permitted only from October 18 to October 20, 2025.
The order, issued via a circular from the Delhi Police Legal Division, mandates the formation of special police patrol teams. These teams will be stationed at designated sale locations with the primary task of verifying that every cracker sold is a certified green product with a valid QR code.
The circular instructs the patrol teams to familiarise themselves with the approved products listed on the NEERI website. They are empowered to conduct random checks, take samples for analysis, and immediately confiscate any firecrackers that are unapproved or lack the proper QR code. Violators will face penalties and risk licence cancellation.
The use of these permitted green crackers is also restricted to specific time slots on the day before Diwali and on Diwali day itself: 6:00 am to 7:00 am and 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
Police have been further directed to ensure no firecrackers enter the NCR from outside. The order also bans the sale of joined crackers (laris), those containing Barium, and all online sales via e-commerce.
