Dr. Nyla to Moderate BBC’s Oklahoma Women’s Coalition Debate

Srinagar: Dr. Nyla Ali Khan will moderate a debate on the organized by Oklahoma Women’s Coalition on British Broadcasting Corporation on December 1.

Oklahoma Women’s Coalition has partnered with the British Broadcasting Corporation to be the local host of an hour-long online debate and discussion on December 1 at 4:30 p.m.

Dr. NYla Aki Khan told KNS that the conversation, one of over 100 to be held worldwide that day, will shine light on current issues women face.

The event will be hosted at IBC Bank’s Community Room located at 3817 NW Expressway, #100, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73112.  It is free of charge and open to the public.

The debates give women the chance to speak up and discuss important issues in their own communities. Oklahoma City participants along with a panel of experts will discuss what it means to be a ‘good girl’ or an ‘ideal woman’ and ask questions such as ‘are beautiful women more likely to succeed’ and ‘what kind of women are more likely to become leaders?’

The Oklahoma City discussion will be shared live with a global audience via BBC social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #100Women.

Dr. Khan is an adjunct associate professor of Women’s and Gender Studies and a visiting professor of English at the University of Oklahoma. She has authored three critically acclaimed books including “The Fiction of Nationality in an Era of Transnationalism” and “Islam, Women, and Violence in Kashmire: Between India and Pakistan.”

She was recently named a member of the Advisory Council of the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women.

Along with Dr. Khan, a panel including Dr. Jean Warner, State Rep. Jason Dunnington, OWC Executive Director Danielle Ezell and Strata Leadership’s Lyn Watson will be help lead the discussion and debate. (KNS)
