EOW registers case after Kashmiri man duped in fake job racket

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered a case after a local resident was allegedly duped by a fraudulent job consultancy and sent to Cambodia on the false promise of overseas employment, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the complaint, the victim was lured by an unauthorized consultancy operating from the Pattan area of Baramulla district, which promised a job abroad as a computer operator with an attractive monthly salary.

Believing the claims, the complainant transferred a substantial amount of money to the accused’s bank account and also spent additional funds on travel and related arrangements.

However, upon reaching Cambodia, the complainant was received by unknown individuals and, instead of being provided the promised job, was coerced into engaging in fraudulent online activities.

The victim refused to participate and soon realized that he had been deceived and his money taken under false pretences.

EOW said preliminary investigation revealed that the allegations reveal the commission of offences punishable under Section 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A formal case was registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar.

Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved in the alleged fraud.
