Fed up with unemployment, youth becoming hostages in foreign countries: Cong

The Congress on Friday alleged that unemployment is at its peak in the country and youth suffering from livelihood crisis are being lured and sent to countries like Russia and Israel in the name of employment where they are forced to work as hostages.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Kanhaiya Kumar, permanent invitee, CWC and in-charge of the party’s student wing NSUI, said that Indian youth have been held hostage in Russia as there is a ‘Mrit Kaal’ or (dead period) for them in the country.

He said, “Russia does not have its own permanent army and runs army on contract and the similar model of ‘Agniveer’ has been introduced in our country. A young man from Gujarat had gone to Russia for civilian work but he died there. There are no words from the government on this sensitive issue”.

Kumar said, “If the youth of the country attain martyrdom for their country, then it is patriotism, but why do the Indian youth have to go and fight in another country? Because the future of the youth in our country is dark. The unemployment rate here has doubled in the last 10 years. Lakhs of posts are lying vacant in central departments and the condition of government sectors is very bad”.

The Congress leader further said that the situation of unemployment in the country is such that every one hour two youth commit suicide. If the Modi government had given two crore jobs every year as promised, the youth would not have had to go abroad.

He alleged that the youth were sent to foreign countries as labourers by taking advantage of their helplessness. Adding that despite such a situation, “you claim to be a ‘Vishwaguru’ but you are a ‘Vish Guru’ because you are poisoning the future of the youth”.
