It was a foggy Sunday morning in Jammu, with the minimum temperature settling at 9.1 degrees Celsius, the Met Office said.

Motorists faced a tough time due to low visibility.

While the minimum temperature in some places in the Jammu region improved due to rains and cloudy sky, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir saw a further drop in mercury because of snowfall on Saturday evening.

The weather office has forecast a dry weather across the state till Tuesday.

'Chillai Kallan', the 40-day-long winter period in Kashmir that began on December 21, ends on Sunday. It is followed by a 20-day 'Chillai Khurd' (small cold) and a 10-day-long 'Chillai Baccha' (baby cold).

The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the state's summer capital, was 2.8 degrees Celsius. Leh was coldest in the state at minus 11.3 degrees.

The maximum temperatures in Srinagar and Jammu city are likely to hover around 10 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively, the weather office said.(Agencies)
