SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 10: Minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb Drabu, on Saturday said the government is devising a ‘comprehensive roadmap’ to address the issue of thousands of contractual and daily-rated workers in the State.

“I visited the protesting contractual and daily wagers. I have assured them that the government is developing a roadmap to address their issues,” Drabu informed the house while responding to a point raised by MLA Inderwal, G M Saroori regarding the plight of NYCs and thousands of daily-wagers.

Saroori was joined by MLA Khanyar, Ali Muhammad Sagar, asking the government to come clean on the issue of thousands of protesting employees.

Responding to the issue, the Finance Minister said 61000 families were “cheated” and “deceived” by the previous regime by engaging persons under different categories without following proper procedure. “Unfortunately, those who made these illegal and illegitimate appointments are now creating ruckus over the issue,” he said.

“Although no procedures were followed by the previous regime while making these engagements, but being a social issue, I want to inform the House that the present Government is serious on the issue and we will take some positive action soon,” he said and added that a comprehensive roadmap is being formulated for their regularization in a phased manner. “No Government can adjust them in one go,” Drabu said.
