Heavy rains in various districts of Kashmir; Authorities warn of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather advisory predicting a prolonged spell of rain across Jammu and Kashmir over the next eight days, warning of potential flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones at vulnerable locations.

According to the forecast, the region is expected to witness intermittent rain and thundershowers from July 16 to 23, with varying intensity:

July 18–20: Intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at many places, with intense spells at some locations and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated spots across J&K.

July 21–23: The weather will remain generally cloudy with repeated spells of rain or thundershowers at many places. A few areas may experience intense showers, and isolated regions could see heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The MeT department has cautioned that intense rainfall during July 16–17 and again between July 21–23 may lead to flash floods, landslides/mudslides, and shooting stones, particularly in hilly and vulnerable areas.

Residents, travelers, and pilgrims have been advised to remain alert, especially in flood-prone zones and along landslide-prone routes. Authorities have been asked to stay prepared for any emergency situation.(KINS)
