Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday introduced three important legislations in the Lok Sabha – a Constitution (One Hundred & Thirtieth Amendment) Bill, 2025, Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
News agency KINS reported that the move triggered a strong protest from Opposition members, who opposed the introduction and demanded that the government withdraw the bills.
The uproar led to ruckus in the House, prompting the Speaker to adjourn the Lok Sabha till 3 pm.
Dismissing the Opposition’s concerns, Home Minister Amit Shah assured the House that there was “no rush” in proceeding with the legislation and that the government was open to discussion.
The introduction of these bills has already sparked sharp political reactions, with Opposition parties accusing the Centre of attempting to weaken democratic institutions and erode the powers of elected governments in the Country.(KINS)
