Hot, dry weather as day temp rises over J&K: MeT

The day temperature recorded above normal amid hot and dry weather prevailed over Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said “a spell of heat wave over plains of Jammu and hot and dry weather over the rest of the place of Jammu and Kashmir from Tuesday onwards.”

The MeT has predicted the weather will generally remain dry, with the possibility of light rain or thunder in isolated places during June 11?17 that can’t be ruled out.

In the outlook from June 18 to 21, the weather will generally remain cloudy with light rain or thunder in isolated places towards the afternoon.

Barring Kupwara, the day temperature rises 1?C to 4?C across the Kashmir valley, while it was 2?C to 4?C above normal in the Jammu division recorded on Tuesday.

However, the night temperature recorded during the intervening nights of Monday and Tuesday was 1?C to 3?C below normal in Kashmir Valley and 0.2?C to 2?C below normal at Jammu, Banihal, and Katra weather stations.

Srinagar recorded the maximum temperature at 30.5?C on Tuesday, and it was 2.5?C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.

Qazigund recorded 30.0 ?C, Pahalgam 25.3 ?C, Kokernag 28.4 ?C, and Gulmarg 19.4 ?C on Tuesday, while Jammu had the maximum temperature of 43.0 ?C, which was 4.0 ?C above normal for the day.

Banihal recorded the maximum at 31.4 ?C. Batote 31.5?C and Katra 38.8?C on Tuesday, the MeT office said.
