Army recently foiled an infiltration bid in north Kashmir’s Uri sector. It was after a long time when the army averted an infiltration bid through the traditional route of Kamalkote in Uri. The unidentified infiltrators had sneaked close to Nanak Post and after engagment with army patrols were neutralised within 15 to 20 minutes.

The officials said the movement of the terrorists was ascertained by using the latest aerial and ground based sensors and surveillance equipment. Though the army failed to identify the infiltrators but officials said that they were well trained and prepared for infiltration and their built indicated that they had undergone formal military training.

Soon after crossing the fence on LoC the movement of the infiltrators was picked by

the new generation surveillance equipment and later a video showing the infiltrators crossing the LoC was also released by the army.

This was the third infiltration attempt that was foiled by the Army in J&K in the recent past. Officials say that Line of Comtrol is over 740 kilometers which includes very difficult terrain and spells of inclement weather are useful in infiltration and despite the vigilance, fencing there are gaps from where they try and infiltrate.

Now, with each passing day, the level of technology, the level of alertness is only improving, so the infiltration has come down significantly, which is also indicated by the peace on the hinterland.  Officials say that handlers in a show of desperation try to push infiltrators from any route which is possible to keep the pot of militancy boiling in Kashmir.

Though the officials say that ceasefire on the LoC is holding but the latest assesment by the army is that at any point of time, opposite Uri sector alone close to 100-120 people are ready  to infiltrate and present in 15-20 launchpads which are close to the LoC. This year there has been less number of encounters on the LoC that is an indication that number of infiltration attempts have come down. However, at the same time army and other forces have not let their surrivellance down and every movement is closely watched through the multi layer security grid. However, the fresh attempts of infiltration is an indication that there could be more similar attempts in coming months especially before the seasons first snowfall that makes it difficult for infiltration. The Army and Police both have to remain on high alert and avert the infiltration attempts in future also as the presence of more militants in the hinterland could result in the increase in militant activity.
