Three Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed on Sunday near the Kerem Shalom border crossing on the southeastern border of the Gaza Strip as a result of an attack allegedly carried out by Hamas, the IDF said.

Earlier on Sunday, the IDF said the Kerem Shalom checkpoint was temporarily closed after the area was shelled by 10 projectiles fired “by Hamas adjacent to the Rafah Crossing, located approximately 350 metres from civilian shelters.”

As a result of the shelling, 11 more Israeli soldiers were injured, the Times of Israel newspaper reported. The soldiers were reportedly guarding military equipment delivered to the area for a planned IDF operation in Rafah.
