Last week, for the first time in many decades, the government successfully conducted Legends League cricket in Jammu and Srinagar cities. The crowd capacity of the Bakshi stadium where it’s final match was held was beyond its expectations and turned out the most successful event.
The success of the match has therefore, allowed the international cricket to resume in Srinagar. The successful culmination of the match, however, has proven that the normalcy has resumed in Kashmir notwithstanding some sporadic incidents of violence by terrorists.
It has also shown how much the people of Kashmir are loving the cricket and how passionate they are to welcome the international cricketers on its soil. The cricketers on the field despite being from various nationalities were cheered and encouraged by the enthusiastic cricket lovers.
And now the people are demanding that International cricket matches of T20 shall also be held here. They want formal resumption of cricket in Srinagar as it has set open the window of hope for all those youths who dream to have their career in cricket.
With such events in Kashmir, the money will flow and eventually the infrastructure will also be upgraded. It is an unfortunate truth that the infrastructure of sports faced a huge setback due to insurgency of last three decades .
Now not only the government shall take it as it’s primary responsibility to upgrade the sports infrastructure in Kashmir and encourage youth to take sports as it’s career but international cricket shall also be resumed since it will boost the tourism sector and promote Kashmir across globe positively.
The image the Kashmir is synonymous with due to conflict in last three decades can only be erased if such grand events are back to back held in Kashmir. And in turn the Kashmir will also get its economic boost.
