The first-ever air show planned by the Indian Air Force in Jammu has been curtailed to one day and will now be held on September 22 at Air Force Station, Jammu.
The air show was earlier scheduled to be held for two days.
A Defence spokesman said to commemorate 76 years of accession of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union and celebrate Diamond Jubilee of Air Force Station Jammu, the Indian Air Force, and UT J&K Administration are organising the air show.
“The show comprises aerobatic display by Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), Mi-17 Helicopters, display by Air Warrior Drill Team (AWDT), Akash Ganga Daredevil Skydiving Team and musical performance by IAF band,” he added.
The spokesman said the marquee event will showcase precise and synchronised flying performance by the nine aircraft team, flying Hawk Mk-132.
“In addition, slithering and small team insertion and extraction techniques by Mi-17 Medium Lift Helicopters, Free Fall by Para Jumpers and precision drill movements by Air Warrior Drill Team will also be displayed,” he added.
He further said the event aims to motivate the youth to join IAF and will also assist in sensitiing the viewers about the importance of aviation safety.
“The display will be open to the public, apart from school children, civil dignitaries and Armed Forces personnel. Lieutenant Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the event,” said the officer.
