Jammu based Tiger Division celebrates 53 glorious years of India victory over Pakistan

The Jammu based Tiger Division of Indian Army on Monday celebrated 53 glorious years of India’s victory over Pakistan on the occasion of ‘Vijay Diwas’ at Balidan Stambh war memorial here.

As per the official comminique, the event was conducted to commemorate the supreme sacrifice made by the gallant soldiers during India-Pakistan war of 1971 during which Indian armed forces thwarted Pakistan Army’s nefarious design by defeating Pakistan in only thirteen days to end the war on December 16, 1971.

To commemorate the event, Deputy General Officer Commanding (Dy GOC), Tiger Division laid wreath at ‘Eternal Flame’ of the memorial to pay tribute to the fallen heroes with ceremonial guard of honour in presence of other ranks of the Tiger Division.

Balidan Stambh depicts ‘Tower of Sacrifice’ and was constructed to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of war heroes in service of the nation.

The monument is the country’s tallest war memorial with the tower height of 60 meters.

In addition to the tower of sacrifice, the memorial comprises of 52 memorial pillars with 7512 names of bravehearts and murals of nine Param Veer Chakra awardees and 27 ashok Chakras awardees.

The solemn day of December 16 is observed every year at Balidan Stambh with full zeal to mark the ‘Vijay Diwas’ celebrations of 1971 war in the befitting manner.
