In a devastating fire incident that broke out in the Wadipora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a shopping complex was gutted on Thursday, officials said.
A civilian identified as Ghulam Mohammad Dar was also injured in the incident and was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Fire and Emergency Services officials said that the fire broke out at the Wadipora Zachaldara area this morning in a double storey shopping complex, causing extensive damage to the upper portion of the building.
At least eight shops of different businesses were severely damaged in the upper portion of the complex in the incident, they said. The ground floor was also affected due to the water cannon used to douse the flames.
Several firefighting engines were pressed into service from the district headquarters to douse the fire.
The fire is suspected to be caused by the leakage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), they said, adding police have taken cognisance and started investigations.
