Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Tuesday called for a complete shutdown on Feb 9 and 11 to protest what it said “judicial killings” of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru”.

Guru and Butt were executed and secretly buried inside New Delhi’s Tihar jail on Feb 9, 2013 and February 11, 1984 respectively.

“The legend of Shaheed Baba-e-Qoum Muhammad Maqbool Butt is a glorious chapter of our history. His struggle, passion and sacrifices will always remain beacon of light for Kashmiri Nation,” a statement issued by the JKLF quoted its Chief Yasin Malik as saying.

He said Maqbool started his fight against illegal occupation and oppression as a loner but soon his struggle and sacrifices motivated the nation of Kashmir and brought a historic peoples revolution. 

“Treading upon his footprints, another son of Kashmir Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru also kissed gallows for the sacred cause and became immortal,” said Malik.

Kashmiri nation, he said, cannot forget these sacrifices and complete shutdown will be observed on 9th and 11th February 2016 to protest against these “judicial killings, oppression and occupation.” 

“A peaceful protest march will be held at Lal Chowk on 10th February 2016 demanding the mortal remains of both Maqbool Butt Shaheed and Muhammad Afzal Guru Shaheed.”

He said JKLF will organize a protest march at Lal chowk on Wednesday, 10th February to demand the handover of the mortal remains of Butt and Guru to Kashmiri nation. 

“On Maqbool Day 11th February, a memorial program will also be held at the birth place of shaheed Muhammad Maqbool butt Trehgam kupwara,” said Malik.

Protest marches and sit-in will be held across the major cities of the world, including Pakistan capital Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Europe, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other parts of the Middle East, he said.

“JKLF London Branch will hold a protest rally in London on the occasion. JKLF will also hold demonstration across Azad Kashmir on 11th February 2016. Protest marches and sit-in will be held in cities like Muzafarbad, Kotli, Mirpur, Rawalakot, Bagh and Gilgit in which the vision and sacrifices of Shaheed Mohammad Maqbool Butt will be highlighted,” said Malik.(Agencies)
