Asserting that foreign terrorists are still active in Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Police, R R Swain on Wednesday said that the security situation at present in the region is much better.
“As compared to four or five years ago, the situation is certainly better at present and this was clear from the rhythm of life, whether one talked in number or strength of terrorists, local recruitment in Valley, law and order, street violence, stone pelting etc,” the J&K Police Chief told reporters here during an interaction.
He said that foreign terrorists are active in Jammu and Kashmir besides the locals as well in both the regions and added, “the security forces, enforcement agencies have an upper hand and control and power to maintain orderliness.”
Admitting that some foreign terrorists have infiltrated into the region, posing a challenge due to Jammu and Kashmir’s long and porous border, which includes forests, rivers and varied terrain, he said, “the security agencies and law enforcement agencies have the upper hand. There is order in the Valley.”
“The enemy is finding newer and newer mechanisms to push in foreign terrorists on this side of the border,” he said and added that the persons supporting and assisting terrorists also pose a challenge but the security forces are determined to eliminate all foreign terrorists soon.
He also stated that there was less local recruitment.
