Amid the US-Israel-Iran war, people in Jammu and Kashmir have launched a large-scale donation drive for affected people in Iran, contributing valuables and savings, prompting the Iranian Embassy in India to express heartfelt gratitude.
“With hearts full of gratitude, we sincerely thank the kind people of Kashmir for standing with the people of Iran through their humanitarian support and heartfelt solidarity; this kindness will never be forgotten.
Thank you, India,” the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India posted on X.
The Embassy also posted videos showing a woman donating gold kept as a memory of her late husband and children offering their piggy banks as contributions.
“A respected sister from Kashmir, donated the gold kept as a memento of her husband who passed away 28 years ago with a heart full of love and solidarity for the people of #Iran. Your tears and pure emotions are the greatest source of comfort for the people of Iran and will never be forgotten. Thank you #Kashmir.
Thank you #India,” the Iran Embassy posted on X.
In another video shared by the Embassy, a Kashmiri child were seen donating her piggy bank for Iran.
There was several pictures and videos on social media showing people mostly from Shia dominated areas donating cash, jewelry, and copperware to Iran amid the war.
National Conference lawmaker and party chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said the outpouring of support reflects the finest spirit of humanity.
“The way cross-section of people of Kashmir from villages to towns have stepped forward in support of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi through contributions to the official State Bank of India (SBI) humanitarian relief account for those affected by the ongoing war is a remarkable testament to compassion and collective conscience. This outpouring of support reflects the finest spirit of humanity, where people rise above everything to stand with those in need,” he said on X. “Just one humble request: do it, but don’t show it.”
Peoples Democratic Party MLA Muntazir Mehdi pledged his one month’s salary towards the relief efforts.
“I stand in solidarity with the people of Iran in this difficult time. As a small gesture of support, I am donating my one month’s salary towards relief efforts. Humanity must come before everything,” he said.
J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) leader and President of the All Jammu & Kashmir Shia Association, Imran Ansari, said that the Kashmiri people, especially the Shia community, have massively come forward with deep faith and devotion, considering it their moral and religious duty to stand with Iran, a nation already facing sanctions and the hardships of war.
“This response is rooted in the teachings and legacy of Shaheed Ayatullah Syed Ali Hussaini Khamenei (RA), whose life and sacrifice continue to inspire resistance, unity, and support for the oppressed.
However, concerns are being raised as some individuals involved in the collection process are reportedly receiving calls from various authorities seeking details about the funds, collectors, and contributors etc,” he said on X.
Ansari urged authorities to handle the matter with understanding and respect.
“At this sensitive moment, it is important to reassure everyone that these donations are purely for a humanitarian and religious cause, meant to support the people of Iran in their time of need. The emotions of the people are deeply involved, and any unnecessary pressure or questioning may hurt public sentiment. I urge the authorities that such matters be handled with understanding and respect, allowing this collective act of faith and solidarity to continue with dignity,” Ansari added.
