Kashmir continued to reel under intense cold wave conditions on Thursday as minimum temperatures across the Valley slipped well below the freezing point, accompanied by a thick layer of fog that reduced visibility in several areas, officials said.
In Srinagar, the mercury plummeted to minus 4°C on Wednesday night, slightly higher than the previous night’s minus 4.4°C. A dense blanket of fog covered the city and surrounding regions, particularly areas close to water bodies.
Pulwama emerged as the coldest location in the Valley, recording a minimum of minus 5.6°C.
In other parts of Kashmir, temperatures also remained harsh with: Qazigund: minus 3.6°C Kupwara: minus 3.2°C Kokernag: minus 0.8°C Pahalgam: minus 4.8°C Gulmarg: minus 1°C.
According to the Meteorological Department, a brief spell of light snow is likely at isolated higher reaches late Thursday night and early Friday morning. The weather is expected to remain generally dry on December 6 and 7, while another short spell of light snowfall in upper reaches is possible on December 8.
Officials advised residents and commuters to exercise caution due to fog-related low visibility, especially during morning and evening hours.(KINS)
