With Kashmir witnessing a significant improvement in night temperatures, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Saturday predicted light snowfall over the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
According to the MeT, on December 5, the weather will remain generally cloudy with a brief spell of very light snowfall likely at isolated higher reaches of these regions. December 6-7 is expected to remain generally dry.
On December 8, the weather office has predicted partly to generally cloudy skies with the possibility of a brief spell of very light snowfall over isolated high-altitude areas of North and Central Kashmir. From December 9 to 13, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy, while December 14-15 may witness partly to generally cloudy conditions.
For December 16-17, the MeT has forecast partly to generally cloudy weather with chances of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir.
The MeT Centre has cautioned that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places across the Kashmir division and at isolated locations in the Jammu division.
Meanwhile, Kashmir witnessed a significant improvement in night temperatures with most places recording a rise after several days of intense cold.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday climbed to 0.4°C, a marked rise from -4.0°C the previous night. Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded -0.2°C compared to -3.6°C, while the tourist destination Pahalgam saw its minimum jump to -1.8°C from -4.8°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 0.2°C, up from -3.2°C, and Kokernag settled at 0.8°C against -0.8°C the night before. Ski-resort Gulmarg registered a minimum of 0.0°C, significantly higher than the previous night’s -1.0°C.
