Kashmir Shuts Against Civilian Killings In Pulwama

A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir valley today to protest the killing of two civilians in alleged firing by police and army in Pulwama district yesterday.

The strike call was issued by JKLF Chief Yasin Malik, Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani and Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq besides heads of other separatist groups.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Ashraf Sehrai and Ayaz Akbar have been placed under house arrest while JKLF Chief is being treated at a hospital in Srinagar under police custody.

All shops and business establishments remained closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley while public transport remained off the roads.

Curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in several areas of Srinagar besides several other parts of the valley to stem protests against the civilian killings.

Authorities have imposed strict restrictions in all six police stations of downtown Srinagar. Meanwhile, the authorities have suspended train services across Kashmir as well.(Agencies)
