For first time post UT status, L-G to unfurl Tricolour at Leh; celebrations at Kargil too Ladakh
After becoming a UT, Ladakh will hold its first Republic Day celebrations equivalent to state-level standards at the historic Polo Ground in Leh district on January 26.
A similar function will also be held at Sultan Chowk Stadium in Kargil district.
“With Ladakh getting UT status, this day of national importance should be celebrated here just like it is done at the state level at other places. Every arrangement should be in place on January 26 as well as during rehearsals. The main functions will be held at Polo Ground in Leh and Sultan Chowk Stadium in Kargil,” Umang Narula, Adviser to Ladakh Lt-Governor RK Mathur, said while chairing a preparatory meeting for the Republic Day parade in Leh.
In Leh, the L-G will unfurl the national flag, followed by a march-past by the contingents of the CRPF, ITBP and police force, NCC cadets and schoolchildren. Later, a cultural programme will be presented by students of various schools and groups of Leh and Kargil districts.
Additional arrangements, including proper seating for VIPs, invitees and general public, inclusion of arm artillery vehicles in the march-past, inclusion of selected contingents for march-past and cultural programme from Kargil district, security and other important issues were discussed during the meeting.
Ladakh Commissioner-Secretary Rigzin Samphel; Divisional Commissioner Saugat Biswas; IG SS Khandare; Leh DC Sachin Kumar Vaishya; officers of the Army, ITBP, police, IAF; and heads of departments concerned were also present in the meeting. Incharge ADC, Kargil, Sonam Chosjor and other officials concerned also attended the meeting through videoconferencing.(TNS)
