LeT associate arrested in J&K’s Baramulla, arms recovered

Security forces arrested a militant associate of banned Lashkar-e-Taiba’s The Resistance Front and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Tuesday.

They said police, along with the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles, arrested Shakir Ahmad Lone, a resident of Dangerpora Sheeri, at Eco Park Crossing in Baramulla.

“Acting on a specific input about terrorist movement in the Eco Park Crossing area, a joint patrol was conducted by Baramulla Police and Army 46 RR. During the patrol, a suspicious person was observed approaching the team on foot. When the suspect saw the police and security forces, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert patrol team,” a police statement said.

According to his personal search and disclosure, a pistol with a magazine, eight pistol rounds, and three hand grenades were recovered.

“The accused also revealed that he is in touch with a Pakistan-based terror handler and was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Baramulla town,” police said.

A case under sections UA (P) and the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Baramulla, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district during a search operation.

Officials said that based on specific inputs from Kupwara Police, a joint search operation was launched by forces in the general area of Nangari Forest, Dardpora Kralpora, during which a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives were recovered.

“During the search, 8 AK Magazines, 445 live AK rounds, a pistol with three magazines, 13 live pistol rounds, and a hand grenade was recovered,” officials said.
