LG Vinai Kumar Saxena appoints DCs, SPs for five new Ladakh districts

Just a day after the formation of five new districts in Ladakh, the Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, on Tuesday approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SP) in these districts so that the administrative works commence immediately.

Ladakh’s number of districts rose from two to seven after five more were added — Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass.

With this prompt action, posts of DCs and SPs in all five new districts have been filled.

Nitish Rajoria has been posted as Deputy Commissioner of Changthang, with SZ Abbas Jaffari as Superintendent of Police. Mukul Beniwal will serve as Deputy Commissioner of Nubra, while Stanzin Losal has been posted as Superintendent of Police.

In Zanskar, Omkar Rajendra Gundage has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner and Rigzen Sandup as Superintendent of Police. Kunzes Angmo will take charge as Deputy Commissioner of Sham, with Aijaz Malik as Superintendent of Police.

For Drass district, Imteeaz Kacho has been posted as Deputy Commissioner, while Ishtyaq Ahmad will serve as Superintendent of Police.

A press release by the Ladakh administration said the move to appoint news DCs and SPs is aimed at ensuring immediate operationalisation of governance structures, strengthening law and order, and bringing the administration closer to the people, particularly in remote and far-flung areas.

The Lieutenant Governor exhorted the newly appointed officials to take charge of their respective districts without any delay.

He urged them to work with full vigour and dedication to fulfil the aspirations of the people and work towards inclusive development of the districts.

Saxena said the remaining posts of subordinate officials will also be filled on priority, apart from fulfilling the logistical requirements, to ensure their smooth and effective functioning.

He added that a robust administrative framework is being put in place to support long-term governance and development goals to translate the vision of district creation into tangible benefits for the people. He emphasised that decentralised governance will significantly improve service delivery, enhance administrative efficiency, and strengthen law and order at the grassroots level.

The move comes ahead of the visit of union Home Minister Amit Shah to Ladakh on April 30.
