Baramulla: The Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a local militant belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The police also revealed that 18 local militants were active in north Kashmir at present.
According to wire service-Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the militant was apprehended by a joint team of police, army and CRPF near Tapper area of Pattan.
Giving details about the arrest of local militant, DIG north Kashmir Sulieman Choudhary in a press conference said that they had specific inputs àbout the movement of a local militant who had joined Hizbul Mujahideen outfit in June last year.
“His movement was interrupted on Srinagar-Baramulla highway and we had established joint nakas at different points of the highway. He was apprehended near Tapper area of Pattan,” he said.
He said that Army’s 29 RR Unit, 176 BN of CRPF and Baramulla police had established the joint nakas and were successful in apprehending the militant.
He identified the militant as Junaid Farooq Pandit of Hamre village of Pattan and he had joined the outfit on 09 June last year.
“He was active since then in north Kashmir and for sometime his movement was also intercepted in south Kashmir as well,” he said.
The DIG also said that 19 local militants active were active in north Kashmir but with the arrest of Juniad it has gone down to 18 now.
He said that a Chinese pistol, two magazines and 30 rounds and other ammunition was also recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, Police have registered a case in this regard and further investigations have been taken up.
