New Delhi, May 9 (UNI) Amid resistance of local residents against an anti-encroachment drive in Shaheen Bagh area, South Delhi Municipal Corporation is ready to resume its encroachment removal campaign.
Amid ongoing protest by the local people, Rajpal Singh, chairman of SDMC, Central Zone told UNI “anti-encroachment” drive will continue under police protection in Shaheen Bagh. SDMC staff, Delhi Police and Paramilitary personnel have already reached the Shaheen Bagh area to resume the encroachment removal drive.
Local residents and some political party leaders have gathered in and around the area and are resisting the drive but police controlled the crowd and removed them from the site.
The SDMC started the drive in its area last week from a road near Karni Singh Shooting Range in Tughlakabad which will run till May 13. On Thursday last week, the action plan was fixed to remove encroachment from Kalindi Kunj Park to Jamia Nagar Police Station, but Delhi Police did not provide the force due to which an anti encroachment drive could not be done, said SDMC.
Early in the morning, it was not clear that the drive would run in the area or not but later on SDMC staff and bulldozers along with police reached the Shaheen Bagh area to launch an encroachment removal drive.
Earlier, SDMC wrote letters to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South East Delhi and South Delhi areas, and submitted a detailed list of areas where anti-encroachments are rampant and action will be taken there, said SDMC.
