Jammu: Setting aside rumours, the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed eventually broke his silence over the shifting of powers from father to daughter and said Mahbooba Mufti is a deserving leader to replace him as Chief Minster in People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

 The Chief Minister backed his daughter at a time when the party is facing a major revolt from two most senior ministers over the post including Muzaffer Hussain Baig and Tariq Hamid Karra. Both are presently elected as the Member of Parliaments.  

 “It’s a democratic process. She works in the field while I only do speech and sit in office,” Mufti said when he was asked the ongoing speculations over the possible shift of powers from father to daughter.

 Mufti said his daughter has better understanding of the party affairs besides politics and have direct access to the grass root level workers.

“Mahbooba ji can handle the party better. After government formation, I focused on development and couldn’t even get time to communicate with my party workers. She has better access to workers and understands their problems too, so she deserves it,” he said.

 He said the two ministers who are opposing any shift in powers from father to daughter has right to express their views. “I am not responsible for their personal comments. As far as Mehbooba’s appointment is concerned it would be a collective decision.”

“She is president of PDP, works hard in the field, represents a constituency in Lok Sabha, became Member of state assembly first time in 1996, so she deserves all this,” he said.
