With Government renaming the Prime Minister’s Office as ‘Seva Tirth’ and Raj Bhavans and Raj Niwas as ‘Lok Bhavan’ and ‘Lok Niwas’, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Thursday said people are more concerned about effective governance than changes in official nomenclature, asserting that “names do not matter—work does.”

The Chief Minister said name changes hold little value without meaningful delivery on the ground.

“Changing the name does not help—change the work,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar.

The CM also quoted Shakespeare’s famous line, “A rose by any other name will smell as sweet.”

He added that people judge governments by performance, not titles. “People do not care what we call ourselves—chief minister or waziralla or mukhimantri. They care about my work.”

Omar said he has “nothing to say” about the new name Lok Bhavan, calling it appropriate as long as it serves its purpose.

“Lok Bhavan is fine. It means people should get relief there. Their work should be done. That is a good thing,” he said.

He added that the renaming is at a national level and not specific to Jammu and Kashmir. “It is for the whole country. If people benefit from it, it is a very good thing.”

On reservation rationalization in Jammu and Kashmir, CM Omar said the file has been sent to the Lieutenant Governor for approval on Wednesday.

“Yesterday, we signed the file and sent it to the LG sahib. We hope that it will be accepted, then we will issue an order,” Omar said.

The Chief Minister said the process to provide government service on compassionate grounds to the next of kin of Nowgam blast victims were in process.

“All their cases are being prepared because all of them were in the service… Their cases are being processed,” he said, adding that wherever relaxation is required, a separate case will be prepared, while in situations where normal orders are sufficient, those orders will be issued and handed over accordingly.

Earlier, the Chief Minister handed over 60 appointment orders to candidates under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme which was previously known as SRO-43.
