The demand for setting up the National Law University in Jammu has reached the House of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Tuesday.
As the House proceedings started, the BJP MLAs raised the demand for a National Law University in the Assembly.
All BJP MLAs rose from their seats to demand the establishment of a National Law University in Jammu.
Holding posters, all the BJP MLAs demanded that the National Law University be established in Jammu.
BJP MLA Surjit Singh Slathia raised the issue, stating that students are on the streets of Jammu demanding the establishment of a National Law University in Jammu, and the BJP stands with them.
He said that he is not against Kashmir, but is only demanding that a National Law University be established in Jammu.
The BJP has previously, on several occasions, stated that a National Law University should be established in Jammu, along with Kashmir.
BJP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia said that the BJP believes that the National Law University should be established in Jammu, as Jammu is better not only in terms of security but also in terms of weather and road connectivity.
Speaking in the Assembly, MLA Showkat Hussain Ganaie targeted the BJP, calling it anti-student.
He said that this is the same party that is demanding a National Law University in Jammu, but celebrated the closure of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence.
He alleged that BJP MLAs make demands only to get their photos published in the media.
Notably, students in Jammu have been protesting for the past month, demanding a National Law University.
The students demand that in Kashmir, law is taught in the University of Kashmir and the Central University, while in Jammu, the University of Jammu is the only institution that offers law, making the establishment of a National Law University in Jammu essential.
