Kulgam: In what may call as political Vedanta, the authorities in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday allegedly forced the senior National Conference leader Sakina Itoo to wind up the free medical camp in a bastion of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Itoo had organised the free medical camp in a remote Chimer Village of South Kashmir where she unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections last year against PDP's Ab Majid Padder.

"In this remote village hundreds of downtrodden people of gujjar community turned up for free medical consultation. But most of them returned disappointed after authorities forced to close down the camp,"said sources.

They said:"Barely after few hours, the camp was inaugurated by former minister of NC government, we were pressurized by authorities to shut down" said one of the doctors, wishing not to be named.

The concerned Chief Medical Officer (CMO), however, showed ignorance about the issue.

"May be some feud is at local level between two communities but our department has nothing to do with that. Even we have no information about the medical camp," CMO Kulgam, Dr Ashiq told The Legitimate.

Itoo, however, alleged that camp was closed on directions of authorities who were forced by local politicians of ruling party.

She said it was sheer political Vedanta by ruling party.

"I tried to seek an intervention from health minister Chowdary Lal Singh and told him that there should be no politics on the healthcare of the poor people but he failed to give any satisfactory answer," she said.

When tried to contact, the mobile numbers of both Health Minister and concerned Mla were switched off.
