NC passes resolution extending condolences, sympathies to Iran on Khamenei’s death

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday passed a resolution extending condolences and sympathies to Iran over the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in strikes by the US and Israel.

Ruling NC in a statement said that General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar led party functionaries in offering tributes to Iran’s supreme leader and prominent figure of the Shia community worldwide.

Chairing a condolence meeting at the party headquarters here, Sagar led the participants in offering tributes and reciting Fatiha for all the victims of the US-Israeli attack on Iran, including schoolgirls who lost their lives in the attack.

A resolution expressing grief and solidarity was presented by the party’s Provincial President (Kashmir), Showkat Ahmad Mir and was unanimously seconded by those present.

The party functionaries extended their heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the people of Iran over the tragic loss of lives and prayed for their protection and strength during this difficult time.

The meeting witnessed participation from a large number of office bearers.

The party’s Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly also expressed solidarity with the people of Iran in their hour of grief.

Meanwhile, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah expressed deep concern over the rapidly escalating war in West Asia, triggered by joint strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran and the subsequent assassination of Khamenei.

Dr. Farooq underscored that war only begets further conflict and that sustainable peace in West Asia can only be achieved through respectful negotiation, mutual understanding and the protection of civilian lives.

Farooq described the attacks as a tragic and destabilising development with serious implications for peace, stability and the security of millions across the region and the wider world. He emphasised that such violence deepens mistrust and suffering, particularly for the people of the Global South, who already face its worst humanitarian and economic consequences.

He urged governments worldwide to support efforts toward an inclusive peace process that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations like Iran and the legitimate concerns of peoples across the Middle East, and to reject actions that fuel division and instability in the region.
