Negotiations over Iran remain challenging, with the parties holding sharply opposing views on core issues, a Turkish government source told Sputnik.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump said that the US-Iran talks were continuing and “going fine,” noting involvement from Vice President JD Vance and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
“The Iran negotiations are unfolding in a highly tense atmosphere, with the sides’ stances on several key points still diametrically opposed. This complicates compromise and demands additional diplomatic efforts,” the source said.
Discussions persist, but there is no sign of quick breakthroughs at this stage, the source added.
Turkey is closely tracking developments and supports a diplomatic settlement to ease regional tensions, the source said.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
The US and Israel initially claimed their “preemptive” attack was necessary to counter the perceived threat coming from Iran’s nuclear program, but they soon made it clear that they want to see a change of power in Iran.
