Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Friday that as long as he is premier, “Iran will not have nuclear weapons,” adding that he and US President Donald Trump were in “complete agreement on this issue.”
“For over 30 years, I have been at the forefront of the international struggle against Iran’s nuclear program. If it weren’t for this struggle, Iran would have had atomic bombs to destroy Israel long ago,” Netanyahu said in a statement, adding that the Islamic Republic was “working to destroy the Jewish state, and I am dedicating my life to preventing them from doing so.”
The Israeli PMO said that the Israeli PM spoke with Trump Thursday night, with the US leader saying that an agreement had been reached with Tehran on “all points”, with a deal likely to be signed next week.
“Even though Israel is not a party to the memorandum of understanding, the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for President Trump’s commitment that the final agreement at the conclusion of negotiations will include the removal of enriched material, the dismantling of enrichment infrastructure, limits on missile production, and the cessation of Iran’s support for its terrorist proxies in the region,” the Israeli leader’s office said in a statement.
Iran’s government has said that it has not yet reached a “final conclusion” regarding the deal on the table, cautioning that nothing is currently definitive, especially as the country seeks to revise certain aspects of the deal. Furthermore, reaching a deal has become more difficult for Tehran owing to the resistance by domestic hardliners, who have demanded that Iran continue to go to war.
