Peoples Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti on Saturday said that the new government in Jammu and Kashmir would be a ” toothless tiger. “
The election results for the Assembly elections that were held after a gap of ten years will be announced on Tuesday.
“With LG ‘nominating’ 5 MLAs & Chief Secretary changing transaction of business rules its clear that the incoming government will be a toothless tiger. How much more will GOI possibly strip J&K of any semblance of authority & autonomy? Rubberstamp CM – Glorified mayor of a municipality, ” Iltija, daughter of Mehbooba Mufti, said in a post on X.
A day earlier, National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah alleged that the BJP government wanted to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister and elected government.
The Home Minister, however, termed Omar’s accusations as misleading and speculative.
“The BJP has accepted defeat in J&K. Why else would the Chief Secretary be assigned the duty to change transaction of business rules of the government to curtail the powers of the Chief Minister / elected government and assign the same to the LG?,” Omar asked in a post X on Friday. “This information has come to me from within the Secretariat. Officers would be well advised to resist any pressure to further disempower the incoming elected government.”
However, the Home Minister termed Omar’s tweet misleading and speculative.
“Mr. @OmarAbdullah’s tweet is misleading and speculative in nature. There is not even an iota of truth, as there is absolutely no such proposal. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act of 2019 passed by the Parliament of India provides for notifying the transaction of business rules, and the same was notified in the year 2020. The people of J&K have wholeheartedly supported the efforts of the Government of India to bring in a democratically elected government through the historic free and fair election process in which the citizens participated enthusiastically, ” Home Minister posted on X while responding to Omar.
