AAC Foundation Day: Party calls for immediate release of Mirwaiz

Srinagar, Jun 20 (KNO): Awami Action Committee (AAC) on its foundation day strongly protests the continued arbitrary and immoral house detention of its head Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq since August 2019.

Since then there is a ban by authorities on any political activity of those seeking resolution of Kashmir issue and party workers are being harassed and hounded ,no function at the party headquarters , the historic Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal or at other Halqas and district headquarters of AAC could be organised,” a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said.

AAC each year celebrates its founding day on 20th June with the determination and commitment that the legitimate and peaceful struggle for the attainment the goal for which it was founded 58 years ago, will continue.

The goal is resolution of the Kashmir issue through means of dialogue and understanding among the stakeholders, which is the best available method in a civilised world. Therefore, India and Pakistan need to forgo hostility and take steps towards the lasting resolution to this longstanding dispute, in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and to the satisfaction of both India and Pakistan. This is AAC principled stand, the statement said.

On this day the organisation pays tributes to its founding head, the fearless and dear leader of the people of J&K Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq (RA) for his sincere, selfless leadership and invaluable and unforgettable service to the Kashmiri people.

AAC also paid glowing tributes to hundreds of its party leaders and carders who tirelessly and sincerely worked all their life for the realisation of its vision and suffered incarceration and innumerable hardships for that.

Awami Action Committee continues with that same mission started by Muhajir-e-Millat Mirwaiz Yusuf Shah (RA) in his time by establishing the Muslim Conference along with his comrades. And then in 1964, by Shaheed-e-Millat (RA) when he laid the foundation of Awami Action Committee to carry forward the legacy despite tremendous challenges and continued to speak boldly for the Kashmiri people at every level till his last breath in 1990 when he was martyred, the statement said.

Under tragic circumstances the gauntlet was then taken up by young Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who has since been leading the party selflessly by example, firm on its commitment and flexible on the manner, it added and hold that the detention of its head Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Umar Farooq is in  complete violation of his basic and fundamental human rights under every law and that this dictatorial behaviour of the authorities is causing great pain and resentment among the people of J&K and the party cadres .

AAC reiterated its demand for immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, activists, youth and others across jails in India including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and resolution of the Kashmir conflict as soon as possible—(KNO)
