Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and pitched for the early restoration of statehood to the union Territory.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the meeting focused on key issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including restoration of statehood, the economy and the pace of development in the region.
“The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for continued support from the Government of India to accelerate economic growth, strengthen connectivity, generate employment, expand infrastructure and enhance public welfare across Jammu & Kashmir,” the office of the CM said in a post on X.
During the meeting, Omar congratulated the Prime Minister on completing 12 uninterrupted years in office.
Omar’s party, the National Conference, has stepped up its campaign for the restoration of statehood. Last week, NC unanimously resolved to hold a protest in New Delhi on the opening day of Parliament’s Monsoon Session to demand the immediate restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s Statehood and constitutional guarantees.
